The St. John’s University baseball Johnnies will have a new clubhouse at Becker Park thanks to donations from alumni, parents and friends of SJU baseball. The 3,800-square-foot building will be constructed between the third base dugout at Becker Park and Durenberger Fields Drive. It will have a locker room with space for 55 or more athletes, making more room in the locker room at the Warner Palaestra. 'Right now, we really don’t have a home,' said coach Jerry Haugen. 'Our lockers are in the Palaestra, and especially during the five-and-a-half weeks of fall practice, we’re squeezing into any spots available to us. During the spring, we take up half the football locker room. But this will give us a place we can call our own.' A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for April and builder Donlar Construction expects to be finished with the project by January 2024, according to SJU. Becker Park opened in 2013 and is named for donors Scott and Julie Becker. After playing football and baseball, Scott Becker graduated from SJU in 1977. He has been a volunteer assistant coach for the baseball team for seven seasons. Haugen said the new facilities will help with recruits, saying the locker room 'will really deliver the wow factor.' 'The objective is to create the best Division III baseball experience in the country, and to provide the facilities that make that possible,' said John Young, the associate vice president for institutional advancement at SJU. 'Our goal is to win national championships.' The school has not released the expected price for construction but named the Becker family as a large contributor. Scott Becker is a founder of Northstar Capital and has contributed significant sums of money to the Johnnie athletic department. St. John’s is 9-8 so far this year but has had trouble playing at home because of inclement weather. Its first two Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series against Concordia Moorhead (6-10) and Saint Mary’s (6-8) have been postponed.

The team at Weidner's would like to congratulate Tom Frericks and this recent award. It has been a pleasure working with Tom and his staff on the design, installation, and service of all the HVAC and Plumbing needs at the Ultimate Sports Bar and Grill. "(KNSI) – Ultimate Sports Bar & Grill owner Tom Frericks has been named the 2022 St. Cloud Area small business owner of the year. The award was announced by the St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday. Frericks had owned the Ultimate Sports Bar in Waite Park for decades when a fire destroyed the building on April 6th, 2020. According to a press release, Frericks talked with his children about the bar, the fire and his future. He had already made up his mind. He would rebuild. He says starting from the ground up after 35 years in business has reminded Frericks how much he loves the bar and restaurant industry. The new Ultimate Sports Bar & Grill is bigger and busier than ever. According to the chamber, the old Ultimate had 23 employees, none of whom were full-time. Today Frericks employs 90 people during the winter and 115 workers during the summer, including ten full time. Frericks’ payroll has gone from $200,00 to $1.6 million, and his revenue projections have gone from $1.2 million to nearly closer to $6 million. The St. Cloud Area Chamber says Frericks has been given the small business owner of the year award for these reasons. The chamber also announced Michelle Henderson of BadCat Digital as this year’s winner of the St. Cloud Area Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year award and Rengel Printing as the 2022 St. Cloud Area Family-Owned Business of the Year. According to the chamber, Henderson did not start out wanting to own an ad agency, but after moving to St. Cloud, she needed to do something to earn a little money while she looked for a job. In September 2017, Henderson tried her hand at creating a business she called BadCat Digital.

Weidner's was recently privileged to provide the HVAC equipment and services for this wonderful project. "The city transformed an old, abandoned quarry site into a beautiful 5,000-seat open-air outdoor amphitheater. In the transformation, a special effort was made to preserve the natural beauty of the quarry, as well as much of the granite and wooded area of the property. Planning and development were a community-driven project that sought input from residents and participation of local businesses," League of Minnesota Cities said in a news release. "The Ledge Amphitheater was created with a focus on flexible space and design, bringing a variety of national and local entertainment options to the facility. The $17 million project was funded through local option sales taxes, local donations, and state bonding assistance. In 2022, it’s estimated that about 60,000-80,000 individuals will visit the site with a projected economic impact for the central Minnesota region of $8 million to $10 million."
